And here we are, March 2009, and still no Linux support from Art Lebedev Studio...

OpenOptimus is moribund. I tried the code back in 2007 and it showed some spark of promise, but coming back to it tonight, I couldn't get it to compile on Ubuntu 64-bit.

Looks like this OM3 is doomed to stay in my cube at the office, and I'll not be buying the other three for my home workstation, for the media player, or the MacBook. :-(

Such a neat idea, let down by lack of support.

Definitely stops me from buying the Optimus Maximus, now. I could probably have placed three of those in my company, for the translation group. :-(

My mini 3 is cool but I configure it so I have my graphics and hotkeys. The ramdomly disappear. Not all but some do or they change. I am using a Mac dual quad core 2.8 ghz with 6 gigs of ram running Mac OS X Leopard newest version. I have the newest version from the mini 3 website. Please help with the problem.

Just unpacked your product. Installed the configurator and plugged in the device. Product seems to be working perfectly but I can't locate the configurator app on my HD. Where does the installer put the software?

I started looking around again a couple of nights ago for a USB to serial cable and found that the Prolific USB to serial adapter is used in quite a few of these...

There are some linux drivers out there for the PL 2303 chip, so I'll do some more research and see what I can come up with.

I uninstalled the previous Prolific drivers and Configurator software. Cleaned my registry, deleting every single entry with the word "prolific" in it. Then I deleter all the oem*.* files from the windows\inf folder.

Rebooted.

Then when I plugged in the Mini 3, Windows detects it and asks for the driver. I choose "Locate and Install"; "Don't Search Online"; "I don't have the disc. Show me other options"; then I "browse my computer for driver software (advanced)"; select the folder; then I get the message "The software for this device has been successfully installed: Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port".

(notice still not "Prolific2 xxxx", only "Prolific USB-to-Serial Port".

When I open the ser2pl.inf file using Notepad, I can see the following at the end of the text:

I need the x64 (64-bit) drivers, for Vista Ultimate.

No matter what version of the Mini Configurator I install, it does not detect or activate the mini three...

Also, I noticed that the drivers linked at this post (http://optimus.freshsite.de/read.php?24,106) have the correct name inside the serwpl.inf: DeviceDesc="Prolific2 USB-to-Serial Bridge". But when Windows detects my mini three and asks for drivers, I point to this driver folder and Windows can't find a valid driver in there... I get this error:

I first uninstalled the Mini Configurator, then I uninstalled PL Prolific Drivers (both via the Control Panel -> Programs and Features).

After that I installed the drivers from your first link, Prolific-64bit-3200.zip.

Then I installed the 1.33 beta version of the Mini Configurator. The program works (as all other versions I have tried) but the device is not recognized as connected (I get the red X at the Configurator tray icon).

Just one side note, when I plug in the Mini Three, I still get "Prolific xxxxxxx" identified. And not the "Prolific2 xxxxxx" as you mention it should be.

I tried to prevent that happening, by deleting all the OEM*.* files from the Windows/inf folder before I installed the drivers. Doesn't help.

You mention "install manually from these drivers", but all the Prolific-64bit-3200.zip archive contains is an Executable (.exe) file. So there is no way I can manually use the Device Manager to point to a specific file. Maybe if you provide me the correct driver files directly, I can install them this way?

I turned off UAC and Driver Control from Vista, so a true manual driver install will not be a problem.

If it is of any interest, my motherboard is an ASUS P5K Deluxe (Intel P35 chipset). I am using Vista Ultimate x64, "performance and stability" updates installed.
